At AGIR Montréal, we offer a wide variety of events during the week and on weekends, from support groups to community dinners, creative workshops, and social gatherings.

French Practice Group: Pratiquons Ensemble

Improve your language skills, build community, and feel supported from people who understand.

As we’ve done before, our French Practice Group is still going! Come join us to practice your French in a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to build more confidence, this is a place to learn together, share stories, and connect with others who understand the experience of learning a new language.

Film Screening: L’Héritier des secrets

For the trans and non binary community

As part of the CINEMANIA Francophone Film Festival, we are delighted to invite our members who are part of the trans and non-binary migrant community to an exclusive screening of the film “L’Héritier des secrets”.

Synopsis:
Farid is only three years old when his beloved father disappears. The family whispers that he fled Morocco for another woman. Farid grows up in the shadow of this unspoken absence, builds a family, and pursues a promising career. The Joy of Watercolor: Discovering Your Inner Garden

Looking for a fun and relaxing creative activity? Join us for our Watercolor Flower Workshop!

Together, we’ll explore the beauty of watercolor painting and learn simple techniques from a professional who knows how to bring art to life with just a brush and some color. This session will focus on painting flowers, whether you already have one in mind or you’d like to be inspired by our Facilitator’s ideas, there’s something here for everyone.

No experience? No problem!

Whether you’re a total beginner or already an art enthusiast, you’ll enjoy a colorful, creative, and welcoming space to express yourself. Come share an afternoon of art, laughter, and community, and leave with your very own watercolor masterpiece. We can’t wait to see you there!

ACCM – Art workshop

Continuing the ACCM Art Workshop Series!

Building on the creative energy from past months, each upcoming session invites you to keep exploring art and yourself through new themes. These workshops are a chance to unwind, connect with others, and express yourself through art in a supportive and inclusive space.’

New to the workshops? No problem!

You can join at any point in the series. Nagham will guide everyone through the creative process, supporting participants at every level.

About the facilitator: Nagham

Nagham is a multidisciplinary artist who graduated with a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design from Syria in 2021 and is currently pursuing a second Bachelor’s in Studio Arts at Concordia University. Her work spans multiple mediums, exploring identity, the human experience, and self-expression. Through these workshops, she fosters community, creativity, and connection.

Working in Quebec: Know Your Rights Workshop

This workshop will be mainly offered in english.

Know Your Rights Workshop introduces basic rules related to employment law through relatable scenarios. It is an interactive workshop in which participants answer questions and participate in group discussions.

Learning objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand their rights regarding pay, time off and end of employment.  
  • Know how to protect themselves at work. 
  • Know who to contact in case of a problem at work.

This workshop is recommended for people with little to intermediary knowledge on employment law in Quebec.

This workshop is brought to you through the collaboration between AGIR and Educaloi.

Quebec’s Health System: How to Surf Its Wave

Navigating the health system can be tricky, but you don’t have to do it alone! Join us for an interactive group discussion designed to help you better understand how healthcare works in Quebec. A group discussion where we’ll talk about the different health insurance plans, their coverage, how to use them, resources available to immigrants based on their status, tips on how and where to access affordable, adapted services, and more.

Building Your New Life in Canada:

Permanent Residence and Family Reunification for Refugees and Protected Persons

This workshop is going to be offered mainly in French

Take part in a workshop that will guide you through the process of obtaining permanent status and family reunification after being accepted as a refugee.

This session will provide information about your protected person status, your rights, and access to services, as well as how to include your spouse, partner, and children in your permanent residence application. We will also explain the differences between family reunification and sponsorship.

Topics Covered:

  • Overview of the permanent residence process for accepted refugees;
  • Inclusion of dependents (spouse/partner and children) in the permanent residence application;
  • Other options for reuniting with other family members;
  • Key differences and characteristics between family reunification and sponsorship.

Come learn and connect in a safe space where you can ask questions and find support for your journey toward a new life in Canada.

Winter clothes swap: Slay the Chill!

Oh, oh, winter’s comin’! Have you gone through your winter clothes yet? If not, it’s the perfect time to do it and join us for our Winter Clothes Swap Day! Bring the clothes you no longer wear, as long as they’re in good condition and can be useful to someone else, and come for a cozy afternoon of sharing and community. We’ll create a friendly, welcoming space where everyone can find a few winter gems to face the chilly season, and, of course, connect with others while doing it!

Prejudice and sexuality Workshop

Exploring, understanding and celebrating diversity

Join us for a safe and open conversation about sexuality in all its dimensions. This workshop invites you to explore sexuality from a holistic perspective, one that includes emotional, physical, social, and cultural aspects. Together, we’ll debunk common myths and stereotypes about sexuality, HIV, and STIs, and reflect on how these ideas can affect our understanding of ourselves and others.

Through interactive discussions and shared reflections, we’ll also look at how media portrayals, both positive and negative, influence the way people living with HIV are perceived and treated.

Popcorn & Pride-Movie night

Join us for a cozy Movie Night in celebration of Trans Awareness Month!

We’re creating a safe and welcoming space where our community members can come together to enjoy a great film, share popcorn, and connect through thoughtful conversations. After the screening, we’ll host a small discussion to reflect on the movie’s themes, share our impressions, and exchange ideas in a respectful, supportive atmosphere.

Plot: In Kentucky, a transgender woman and her best male friend lament the lack of eligible partners and step across old boundaries of love and romance.
